Why Rent Indoor Storage Units?

If you need to put some of your possessions in storage, then you might not be sure whether to use indoor or outdoor units. Indoor units have some additional benefits over outdoor options. What are they?

Indoor Units Have Better Climate Control

Outdoor storage units can suffer from weather-related problems. For example, these units can get too hot in summer or too cold in winter. They can sometimes suffer from moisture and humidity problems. These temperature extremes can damage the things you store in your unit. Fabrics, clothing, paper, and furniture don't always cope well with fluctuating temperatures.

If you can find a local company that has climate-controlled outdoor units, then this is less of a problem. However, you will usually have to pay higher rental rates for climate-controlled storage. You might not want to pay extra if your stored items don't need these controls.

Indoor storage units don't have the same weather problems. They are located in a building where they get general protection from outdoor temperatures. They also benefit from the building's general climate controls.

So, even if you rent a regular unit without its own climate control system, your items shouldn't be affected by heat or cold. They should stay in better shape even if you store them for a long time.

Indoor Units Are More Secure

A professional storage company will have good security systems in place. They will make it difficult for anyone to get on their site unless they should be there. However, outdoor units can be more vulnerable. Intruders only have one layer of security to get through. Once they are on the site, they can get to outdoor units.

If you rent indoor units, then you get two layers of security. Your unit will be inside a building with its own security systems inside a site with a secured perimeter. It's harder for people to get inside storage buildings; they have more security systems in their way. For example, your building might have staff on site who monitor access and make regular patrols around the building. It might have restricted access controls, security surveillance systems, and alarms.

Anyone who wants to get into the building to access indoor units will have to find a way to get into the site. Then, they have to find a way to get into the main building. They will have to negotiate a way past staff, cameras, and alarms. So, your items will be safer in an indoor unit.
